Carotid Artery Exposure
Step by step
Mark the incision line. Starting just cranial to the jugular notch of sternum, extending along the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and stopping caudal to the mastoid process with the midpoint in line with the upper part of the thyroid cartilage – approximating the position of the carotid bifurcation.
To aid approximating the location of the marginal mandibular nerve, the lower border of the mandible may also be marked.
