An Irrigation fluid warming system is a fluid warmer which is used to warm fluids or blood in order to prevent hypothermia. Maintaining normal body temperature maintains clotting function and reduces bleeding.
The anesthetic nurse uses the device to warm up blood during complex procedures with great amounts of blood loss , or to warm up the infusion fluid, in the prevention of hypothermia. Scrub nurses work with the device during transurethral urologic procedures or hysteroscopic procedures.
These procedures require an irrigation fluid for either distention of the bladder or intrauterine cavity.
