Preparation

Digits

Examine

Examine the digits for pain and impairment of function. Also examine the adjacent joints for functionality and pain. Examine the digits for altered sensation or impaired perfusion. This examination is used for comparison after cast application and to detect abnormalities which require immediate attention.

Imaging studies adjacent joints

If pain complaints are present in adjacent joints, doing imaging studies is advised such as an X-ray.
