Mark the skin 2 mm volar to the junction between the volar skin and dorsal skin of the thenar eminence, starting at the palmar crease, following the curvature of the the thenar eminence until approximately 1,5 cm distal to the first carpometacarpal joint.

Junction volar and dorsal skin identification

The junction between the volar and dorsal skin can be identified because of the difference in skin structure. The volar skin is thicker and more rigid. Also there is hair on the dorsal skin which is absent on the volar skin.
