Delivery of the Legs

If the legs are not delivered spontaneously the upper legs may be splinted by placing the index and middle finger parallel to the femur. The thumb is positioned on the buttock of the fetus. Light pressure is then applied to the popliteal fossa to flex the knee. The femur is then pushed upwards, promoting even more flexion in the knee to free the leg.

This maneuver is performed one leg at a time.
