Introduction

Preface

This course discusses how a standard electrosurgical unit with monopolar and bipolar functions is operated. It is important to know the differences between electrosurgical devices in order to understand the effect on tissue. A commonly used standard electrosurgical unit is the Valleylab Force FX.

In this course, the handling of the Valleylab Force FX and the different settings and modes with the corresponding tissue effects will be discussed. It is a power controlled generator. The difference between a
power controlled and voltage controlled generator and the difference in tissue effect is thoroughly explained in the course: “The Basics of Electrosurgery“.

Its main purpose is to cut and coagulate tissue. These effects are achieved by heat generated due to a controlled amount of electricity flowing through the tissue.

The device may be used in all kinds of surgery, including regular and endoscopic procedures.

It is advised to start with the course:”The Basics of Electrosurgery“. This course will provide a more detailed explanation about electrosurgery and its working mechanism.
