ZAS Rolls Out Incision Assist Across Five Locations in Antwerp, Transforming Surgical Support in the BeNeLux

Ziekenhuis aan de Stroom (ZAS), a Belgium hospital, is stepping into the future of surgical care by expanding its partnership with Incision. Following a successful pilot with the Incision Assist platform in neurosurgery at ZAS Cadix, the hospital system has committed to a full rollout across five sites in Antwerp: Cadix, Augustinus, Middelheim, Palfijn, and Vincentius. This four-year collaboration reflects ZAS’s investment in innovation, team support, and high-quality care.

At the heart of this initiative is Peter Peeters, Cluster Director of Surgery, whose leadership and commitment are instrumental to the successful implementation of Incision Assist.

“Respect each other’s differences, celebrate one another’s talents, and align toward a common goal. When our staff feel supported, it reflects in the care our patients receive. Incision Assist helps us create a work environment where team members are better prepared, with less effort, for the procedures they support.”
Peter Peeters, Cluster Director of Surgery, ZAS

What Is Incision Assist?

Incision Assist is the ConfidentOR Solution that equips perioperative teams with the information they need—right when they need it. The platform includes enriched preference cards, materials and equipment info, 3D room setups, and multimedia educational content. Teams can also upload their own images, videos, and notes, making it a tailored, accessible support system.

Why ZAS Chose Incision Assist

In the OR, every second matters. A well-informed team can mean the difference between smooth workflows and unnecessary delays. ZAS is investing in smart technology to strengthen its teams and deliver better care. With Incision Assist, staff benefit from:

  • Instant access to critical information—anytime, anywhere

  • More confidence in the OR—less time searching, more focus on patients

  • Safer, more efficient workflows—fewer mistakes, faster room turnover

  • Smoother onboarding for new staff and students—less stress, better starts

Pilot Success Leads to Broader Implementation

The initial pilot in neurosurgery received enthusiastic feedback from staff, surgeons, and leadership. Encouraged by the results, ZAS decided to expand Incision Assist to four additional locations.

Incision’s Customer Success team has already visited the new sites to co-develop a customized implementation plan, which was met with strong support from the hospital leadership.

“With Incision Assist, surgical teams have the right knowledge at their fingertips. This collaboration shows how digital tools can streamline workflows and help teams feel more confident—leading to better outcomes for everyone involved.”
Femke van der Gaag, Managing Director BeNeLux, Incision

Measuring Impact Together

Incision and ZAS will closely monitor the platform’s impact using both qualitative and quantitative data, focusing on improvements in preparation, workflow efficiency, and team confidence.

Shaping the Future of the Operating Room in the BeNeLux

ZAS’s decision to expand its use of Incision Assist reflects a growing demand for digital support in the surgical space across the BeNeLux region. Hospitals are increasingly turning to smart, team-focused technology to help their perioperative teams work more confidently, more efficiently, and with greater consistency. With proven outcomes—like 15% faster turnover times and the ability to add an extra procedure per day in high-volume ORs—Incision Assist empowers hospitals to optimize performance without adding strain to staff.

This collaboration represents a major step forward for ZAS in building a more efficient, higher-quality, and future-ready OR. We’re excited to continue the rollout and see the day-to-day impact that Incision Assist will bring to surgical teams across all ZAS locations.

About Ziekenhuis aan de Stroom (ZAS)

Ziekenhuis aan de Stroom (ZAS) was established in 2024 through the merger of two major hospital networks in Antwerp: ZNA (Ziekenhuis Netwerk Antwerpen) and GZA Hospitals. ZNA originated from the city’s former public OCMW hospitals, while GZA’s roots trace back to medieval times, founded by the Sisters of Charity of Antwerp to care for pilgrims in need.

Today, ZAS is the largest hospital group in Belgium and one of the largest in Europe. With 9,000 employees, 1,000 physicians, and 3,300 beds across 14 campuses, two outpatient clinics, and one medical center, ZAS offers care in more than 40 medical specialties. Each year, ZAS provides care for 80,000 inpatient admissions, 146,000 day surgeries, 985,000 outpatient visits, 8,000 births across four maternity wards, 188,000 emergency visits across five ERs, and performs 87,000 surgeries in 62 operating rooms.
